The Solvency II ontology is an RDF/OWL representation of the EIOPA XBRL taxonomy.
Solvency II reviews the prudential regime for insurance and reinsurance undertakings in the European Union.
The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) was established in consequence of the reforms to the structure of supervision of the financial sector in the European Union.

The purpose of the ontology is bi-directional:
- For regulators and analysts to process XBRL filings and load the data into the Financial Industry Business Ontology (FIBO)
- For insurance companies to fill Solvency data items from information contained in FIBO and generate the XBRL forms.
The EIOPA ontology files on this site are still in development and experimental. Simply, Hedge Funds and Banks had a higher sub domain priority for the Financial Regulation Ontology.
- Fund Ontology populates FIBO from US Investment Adviser from ADV records.
- Bank Ontology has an example of the XBRL US Consolidated Report of Condition and Income (FFIEC 031, Call Report) that shows the SPARQL query and result set.
The EIOPA and Financial Regulation ontologies are open source. You are free to download and use them as long as you retain the license & copyright annotated properties of the EDMC, OMG, and Jayzed Data Models.
